Music from Chopin’s Land

PWM Edition launches an international campaign promoting piano works by Polish composers. “Music from Chopin’s Land” is about far more than just Chopin – it also encompasses works by Paderewski, Szymanowska, Moniuszko, Kilar, Kurpiński and many other artists.

Frederic Chopin’s pieces need no introduction, and no pianist needs to be encouraged to play them, as his compositions showcase Polish piano music all over the world. The “Music from Chopin’s Land” international project, addressed to beginner and intermediate pianists and their teachers from Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Japan, Germany and Austria, encourages them to broaden the basic educational and concert repertoire with works by Polish artists. We encourage exploring and using the works by Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Stanisław Moniuszko, Karol Kurpiński, Maria Szymanowska, Wojciech Kilar, Tekla Bądarzewska and many others, less known composers, whose works make up a substantial educational and concert oeuvre for young piano students.

We prepared a series of five demonstration classes presenting the educational aspects of the works by selected Polish composers for each of the partner countries of the project – Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Japan, Germany and Austria. The classes are conducted by an excellent teaching pianist in the language of the country in question. All videos cover performance and interpretation, along with proposed technical solutions. In order to enable the active use of all 25 tutorials recorded as part of the project, the videos will include translations into the languages of all partner countries. The demonstration classes are complemented by showcase recordings of performances of the pieces presented in the tutorials, added as a bonus to each of the educational videos.

All the materials of the “Music from Chopin’s Land” project are published according to the campaign schedule on PWM’s YouTube channel. What is more, information about the project will be disseminated by Polish Institutes in London, Rome, Paris, Berlin, Vienna and Tokyo, as well as educators associated with the PWM.

Release schedule for materials in individual language versions:
• from 9 November: tutorials in English

• from 16 November: tutorials in French
• from 23 November: tutorials in Italian
• from 30 November: tutorials in Japanese
• from 7 December: tutorials in German
